3D printing that passes itself off as metal: a 3-meter installation for the Zhirok restaurant
Studia3D has completed a project to create a large-scale interior art object for the Zhirok restaurant.
The final size of the prefabricated structure was 3 meters in length.
The original form was designed by the designers,
our task was to adapt the model for additive manufacturing: we modified the wall thickness using a specialized tool and prepared the geometry for printing.
To implement a large-scale object, we performed deep segmentation: the 3D model was divided into 227 separate elements, which were subsequently combined into 8 final enlarged parts.
Each part was printed, cleaned of manufacturing seams, and prepared for coating.
The key technical feature of the project was the vacuum deposition of aluminum on all finished segments, which provided a natural metal effect that was visually indistinguishable from casting.
The finished parts were delivered to the site. The installation, which included hanging the structure, joining the segments, and connecting the electrical components, took 30 hours.
A few weeks later, the final adjustments were made: all the cable connections were checked, and the gaps between the elements were fine-tuned.
The project demonstrates the capabilities of 3D printing when working with unique design shapes and large dimensions in commercial interiors.
